| Paranormal Investigation By: Jason Williams Publication Date: October 10, 2007 On Friday, September 28, 2007, The Bridge Staff joined P.I.C.K. (Paranormal Investigators of Central Kentucky) in hunting ghosts on the north campus of Somerset Community College. It has been two years since such an investigation has been performed at SCC. The main areas of interest were Stoner Hall (particularly the Stoner Little Theatre) and the Strunk Resource Center. Zach Bales (former writer for The Bridge) and Kyle Kadel (former SCC student) lead the campus-wide investigation; they were accompanied by members of The Bridge staff, Professor Stuart Simpson, and other P.I.C.K. members. After setting up video surveillance systems with night vision, motion detectors, digital voice recorders, digital cameras, and EMF detectors, the investigation got underway. I, Jason Williams, am currently a member of P.I.C.K. Frankly, I’m open to the possible existence of ghosts, spirits, and entities. I’ve personally recorded several unexplainable EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) before. One of these instances took place at the Hardwick House in Bronston where three male members of P.I.C.K. recorded a female voice mumbling several explicit words. I am aware that in the Holy Bible—the cornerstone of the Christian faith—has quite a few passages about ghosts. In one verse, King Solomon speaks with someone from beyond the grave. Also, the book of Revelation tells us that in Earth’s final days, voices from angels, demons, and ghosts will be heard throughout the world. This type of phenomenon is not just reserved for religion. William Shakespeare’s plays are laced with paranormal phenomenon. Why? Shakespeare was a diehard paranormal enthusiast. Thomas Edison was also a stringent believer in ghosts. He firmly believed in the concept of EVP… and even muttered on his deathbed, “It’s very beautiful over there.” Socrates, Albert Einstein, Franklin Roosevelt, Lord Byron, J.R.R. Tolkien, Leonardo Da Vinci… these men (and many others) were avid paranormal enthusiasts. Who are we to disagree with these prominent historical figures? Who are we to argue with Socrates? As the night crept on, we started capturing orbs (ethereal manifestations of energy) on our digital cameras. Of course, an investigator has to be careful when conducting orb photography—hovering molecules of dust and dew will also appear as orbs in photographs and videos. All in all, it’s highly difficult to dispute the credibility of an orb when it appears halfway behind a tree branch… or when it responds to personal command and appears where/when it is told. Professor Stuart Simpson had an unusual experience with orbs during this paranormal investigation. When Simpson asked for a spirit to make itself known above the palm of his right hand, sure enough, our cameras captured at least two bright orbs floating above his right palm. As several of us ventured into Stoner Little Theatre, Kylee Morris and Will Wilson decided to enter the projection booth to investigate. Wilson closed the door behind them. When they had finished their observation, the door would not readily open. A chair had apparently been pushed up against the outside of the door, blocking their exit! This paranormal occurrence made for a frightening experience for both of them. As a large group of us gathered around a table in the Strunk Resource Center, listening to new and old audio recordings, we were abruptly hushed by a loud bang. Something unusual had happened just a few feet away from us! Luckily for us, we managed to record this loud noise on one of our audio recorders. “I’ve recorded haunting EVP’s, I’ve photographed disturbing spectral anomalies, and I have seen—with my own eyes— nightmarish apparitions, poltergeists, and shadow beings,” said Zach Bales lead investigator of P.I.C.K. Bales has been on many paranormal investigations all throughout the Kentucky. He recently spent the night in Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky, one of the most haunted places in the world. According to P.I.C.K. member Bill Scott, when he was a student at SCC in the 80’s, he was in the Strunk Library studying close to where the restrooms were located. He was startled by the opening and slamming of the men’s restroom door, as he waited for someone to eventually exit, no one ever did for the remainder of the hours he was there studying. I definitely believe that there is paranormal activity at Somerset Community College. Could it be a poltergeist? Is it an entity able to move doors, and hit shelves? Who knows?
